The King's University head coach Patrick Winand has announced the commitment of setter Mason Gorski as the second member of the 2020 class.
Mason is coming to King's after spending his life in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Here he has collected many accolades, representing Team Saskatchewan at the Canada Cup in 2018, 2019 and single-handedly leading his team to a gold medal finish at the 2019 5A SHSAA Provincial Championships.
Coach Winand strongly believes Mason is among the top high school players in Saskatchewan. "Throughout my time there (SK) I have been able to see how Mason's skillset surpasses his opponents and I am incredibly impressed. His ability to read the blockers and run an offence around that is next level. His libero like instincts on defence and raw ability to connect with middles is going to be a huge asset for us moving forward".
Having played alongside King's recruit Ethan Armstrong in Richmond, BC, and against coach Winand's team that had first-year Carter Roflik on it, Mason will be no stranger to the Eagle's roster. "I've always played against coach Winand's teams, for the past four years," said Gorski, "I really like his coaching style and liked how he ran his teams. I'm excited to be a part of that".
When asked about his first year as an Eagle, Mason commented, "Ethan is a really great guy and good athlete – so I am excited to experience the first year together with him, it will be fun. When I toured King's it felt like home with the guys, everyone is super connected with a good team vibe. They (current Eagle's roster) are really competitive which I'm looking forward to."
Gorski will be entering the Business program this fall. Welcome to King's University!
