Q: Congrats on your win on Friday against Augustana! How does it feel to have that win under your belt as new Head Coach?
A: It feels great to get the win! The women played really well, and we should have won by more really. We defended really well and made some excellent chances going forwards. We scored two really beautiful goals too! I try not to judge too much on results. I am constantly looking for improvements in performance (both individual and collective), but it is hard to escape the issue of results. I hope we can take confidence from the result and performance into the rest of the season! We have a good squad and good players. I am looking forward to the rest of the outdoor season!
Q: Players of the game?
A: Both of our wide players--Rachel Messelink and Lauren Hilton--had excellent games. They were dangerous going forward and tracked back to help out on the defense.
Q: Tell me a little bit about the game against Concordia this Sunday. I understand some of your players received some knocks? What's the status of those players?
A: Concordia was a difficult game but we acquitted ourselves well. We have been starting games (and halves) slowly, which has made it difficult for us to get a foothold in the games. We played well for about 30 minutes in the middle of the first half. We were only 1-0 down for a long time and then they got a lucky deflected goal. Our main problem was we couldn't do enough with the ball when we had it to put them under pressure. They are a good team (currently ranked second in Canada!), so I was pleased with our shape and our intensity. We played way better than our first game against them. Some of the women were carrying injuries coming into the game which is why they had to be subbed off in the second half. I am hoping for better news on the injury front for this weekend's games!
Eagles WSOC come out of two game weekend with a victory!
